Miss McDonald's Home

The farm I grew up in was in the newspaper this week!

I spent hours as a kid skating on this ice. It is massive compared to the rink we skate on in Alex.
I remember racing home after school, grabbing by black leather skates and running to the "curling dam" as we called it. Some days we would skate for hours, some times we took our hockey sticks and hit pine cones along the turf, other times we would climb the hill and enjoy the view.
I remember carefully getting onto the ice, as the edges were sometimes soft and would crack easily. Sometimes you had to kind of jump from the edge onto a harder part of the ice and quickly get you balance as you skated into the middle.
I remember how the water came into the dam from a little ditch on the south end. I remember daring my sister one time to skate near this ditch, knowing full well that the ice was soft. She fell through the ice and got soaked right up to her waist. We had to run home because we were scared she would get pneumonia, man was I in trouble that day!
